Greetings,
For the Maker Studio in room 317, 5th graders need building materials, many of which are recyclable materials around your home! Please take a moment if you can to look at our donation request list to see if you might be able to provide anything for our students. There will be plastic containers inside MIMS Commons by library circulation desk to drop off any donations you may have.
Music and sound are currently the central STEAM themes of 5th grade Scratch programming and computer science projects, and at the moment, they're going to need large tongue depressor sticks (approximately 200 in total) for an upcoming project to make a reed style harmonica. 5th graders will also be designing and constructing original musical instruments from recyclable materials as we work through the engineering cycle. These might become wind, string or percussion instruments-to be determined-as we look further into elements of sound-including pitch, tone, frequency and amplitude. So if you happen to know a doctor's office willing to spare some surplus tongue depressors, we would immensely appreciate it!
Thanks for your support!
Sincerely,
Ms. Eastman
